Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arranging. It is a way of floral arranging according to aesthetic principles focusing on balance, form, movement and movement.
Ikebana translates to “the way of flowers”
It embraces the natural imperfections in flowers and foliage and plays with the negative space and shadows these shapes create.
Our dried flowers
From seed to everlasting

A feeling, a question, an idea, an image. How do flowers enrich our lives? Bringing soft, naturalness into manmade interiors that increase our wellbeing and remind us of the great outdoor world.
Begin with…
Be inspired by the patterns that occur in nature. Wildness. Think of your favourite natural environment. What are its key features? What feeling does it give you? How can you convey this through the flowers?
Naturalness
Use your intuition. What colours, flowers, foliage are you instinctively drawn to? How does this reflect your personality, yourself? Trust your instinct and use it to guide you.
Intuition
What is your favourite colour palette? Minimalist or maximalist? Rustic or refined? Fun or elegant? Bold or gentle?
Style
Embrace the process over the static outcome. Admire and adore the natural imperfections in plants, celebrate them. Create a focal point around one particular quirk.
Imperfection is perfection
Juxtapose the pretty with the brutal. The features that are considered unsightly in nature could be key to highlighting what is beautiful. Think about the negative space, the space between the stems and blooms. The shadow you will create. Colours.

Seeing the beauty in every one

Step by step
1
Choose about 25 - 30 stems for a denser arrangement, or only a select few for a more bold minimalist look. Stand your stems in your floral frog between the metal prongs.
2
Think about what vessel you will use when you take your arrangement back home. For a more complex, busy arrangement choose a simple vessel to create balance for the eye. And a simpler, bolder arrangement will compliment a quirkier vessel.
3
Use floral tape to group thin and delicate stems together so they can stand in the floral frog.
4
Trim your stems to the length you choose and don’t hesitate to trim off any side branches or flower that don’t add to the arrangement.
5
Fix your floral frog more sturdily to your vessel using blue tack or anything sticky.
